20 Killed as Suspected Bandits Attack Kebbi Community
No fewer than 20 people have been killed following a deadly attack by suspected bandits on Fesken Rafi community in Arewa Local Government Area of Kebbi State, prompting renewed concerns over insecurity in parts of the state.
The Kebbi State Government has expressed condolences to the families of the victims and residents affected by the attack, describing the incident as a tragic loss and assuring communities of intensified efforts to improve security.
Leading a government delegation to the community on Saturday, Umar Tafida conveyed the state government’s sympathies and reiterated its commitment to safeguarding lives and property across Kebbi State.
During the visit, the deputy governor announced plans to deploy additional security personnel and operational resources to the area to reinforce ongoing security operations, restore calm and prevent further attacks.
“We share in your grief and remain committed to ensuring the safety of lives and property across Kebbi State,” he told residents.
Officials of the local government informed the delegation that the attack occurred a few days earlier and resulted in significant casualties. Among those who briefed the delegation were Sani Tela and Nuradeen Kangiwa.
They commended the administration of Nasir Idris for its ongoing efforts to tackle insecurity and for responding promptly to the plight of affected residents.
Traditional leaders who accompanied the delegation also praised the government’s intervention. They included Kabiru Sulaiman, who represented Sama’ila Muhammad Mera, and Abubakar Dan-Malam.
The traditional rulers appealed for the construction of a road linking Fesken Rafi to the main highway, arguing that improved access would enhance security response times, stimulate economic activities and improve living conditions for residents.
The latest attack highlights the continuing security challenges facing rural communities in parts of Kebbi State despite ongoing efforts by security agencies and the state government to combat banditry and other violent crimes.
