NECO to Engage 22,000 SSCE Supervisors, Cautions Teachers Against Fraudulent Job Portals

The National Examinations Council (NECO) has announced plans to recruit approximately 22,000 supervisors for the upcoming 2026 Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE) Internal, while issuing a strong warning to the public regarding fraudulent websites targeting unsuspecting applicants.

The warning follows the council’s discovery of fake online portals posing as official recruitment platforms. These fraudulent sites have allegedly been demanding illegal registration fees from teachers before allowing them to upload their academic credentials.

In an official statement signed by the Acting Director of Information and Public Relations, Azeez Sani, NECO categorically clarified that it does not request any form of payment from teachers applying to serve as examination supervisors.

The council revealed that the recruitment framework has been completely digitized and automated, strictly replacing the previous manual selection process. The transition to an online system follows direct recommendations from the Ministerial Committee on the Improvement of Quality of Examination in Nigeria. By automating the application process, NECO aims to permanently block third-party middle agency fraud, eliminate nepotism, curb examination malpractice, and bring greater fairness and institutional transparency to the deployment of supervisors.

To maintain strict supervisory standards during the internal school examinations, NECO has outlined rigid professional benchmarks for all potential applicants. The council stated that only qualified, pensionable teachers who meet the following requirements are eligible to participate:

* Must be active classroom teachers or public educators.
* Must hold a civil service rank of Grade Level 12 and above.
* Must be 30 years of age and above.

The council emphasized that no third-party agents or physical coordinators have been authorized to handle registrations. Eligible teachers are urged to completely ignore any platforms demanding financial commitments and to process their applications exclusively through the official, dedicated electronic portal
