Minister of Works, David Umahi, has expressed confidence that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's administration will successfully tackle Nigeria’s security challenges, urging citizens and political actors not to politicise issues of national security.

Umahi made the remarks on Thursday during the flag-off ceremony of the Gombe–Biu section of the Akwanga–Jos–Bauchi–Gombe–Biu–Maiduguri Super Highway project in Gombe State.

Addressing stakeholders and residents at the event, the minister acknowledged the persistent security challenges facing parts of the country but maintained that the Federal Government remains committed to restoring peace and stability nationwide. According to him, insecurity should not be used as a political tool, especially as the country moves closer to future electoral contests.

He stressed that safeguarding the lives and property of Nigerians is a collective responsibility that should transcend political interests. Umahi praised President Tinubu's leadership, noting that the administration has already recorded progress in economic reforms and infrastructure development.

He expressed optimism that similar success would be achieved in addressing security concerns across the country. “The President has demonstrated courage in implementing difficult but necessary reforms.

Just as progress is being made in stabilising the economy and expanding infrastructure, I believe insecurity will also be defeated,” he said.

The minister highlighted several ongoing federal road projects, including the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway and the Sokoto-Badagry Super Highway, describing them as strategic investments designed to boost economic growth, national integration, and regional development.

His comments come amid continued public concern over incidents of banditry, kidnapping, terrorism, and communal violence in parts of the country.

Security remains one of the key issues dominating national discourse, with opposition parties and civil society organisations calling for stronger measures to protect citizens.

Despite the challenges, Umahi insisted that the Tinubu administration is determined to strengthen security operations and improve the welfare of Nigerians through sustained investments in critical sectors.

The Gombe–Biu highway project forms part of the Federal Government's broader infrastructure agenda aimed at improving transportation networks, facilitating trade, and enhancing economic opportunities across northern Nigeria.
