Tinubu Returns to Abuja After Eid Holiday as NAHCON Begins Pilgrims’ Return Flights
President Bola Tinubu on Tuesday returned to Abuja after spending the Eid-el-Kabir holiday in Lagos, where he held a series of political, governmental and diplomatic engagements alongside the festive celebrations.
The President arrived at the Presidential Wing of the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport at about 5:17 p.m. and was welcomed by top government officials, including Minister of the Federal Capital Territory Nyesom Wike, Chief of Staff Femi Gbajabiamila, National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu and Inspector-General of Police Kayode Egbetokun, among others.
During his stay in Lagos, Tinubu received several political leaders and stakeholders who paid him traditional Sallah visits. Among them were Vice President Kashim Shettima, members of the National Assembly led by Senate President Godswill Akpabio, and governors under the umbrella of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum led by its chairman, Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq.
The President also met with leaders of the All Progressives Congress from Oyo State, headed by the party’s governorship candidate, Senator Sharafadeen Alli, as well as APC candidates contesting legislative seats in Lagos State.
As part of his official engagements, Tinubu attended the International Fleet Review held at the Eko Atlantic waterfront on Monday as part of activities commemorating the Nigerian Navy’s 70th anniversary.
He also held discussions with Benin Republic President Romuald Wadagni, with both leaders focusing on bilateral relations, regional cooperation and economic partnerships between the neighbouring West African countries.
Meanwhile, the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON) has announced that the return airlift of Nigerian pilgrims from Saudi Arabia will commence on Wednesday.
Speaking in Makkah, NAHCON’s Head of Aviation Operations, Habib Bello, said airlines had finalized their schedules in collaboration with Saudi aviation authorities, which allocated operational slots for the exercise.
According to Bello, Max Air will begin transporting pilgrims from Nasarawa State on June 3, while Flynas and Air Peace are scheduled to commence return flights for pilgrims from Ogun and Oyo states on June 4.
He advised pilgrims to comply with baggage regulations, which permit two checked bags weighing up to 23 kilograms each and one hand luggage not exceeding eight kilograms.
Bello warned that failure to adhere to the approved baggage limits could lead to delays or exclusion from flight manifests. He also urged pilgrims to notify officials at least 48 hours before departure to enable the processing of travel documents, luggage and transportation arrangements.
Also speaking, Head of the Makkah Passport Committee, Abdurrahman Mohammed, said NAHCON had completed the initial phase of the 2026 Hajj operation and had begun processing passports for the return journey.
He explained that pilgrims’ passports were being held in secure custody to prevent loss, damage or unauthorized use, adding that timely submission of travel details would ensure smooth processing and departure.
