NANS Mobilises North-East Students for Protest Over Abducted Borno Pupils
The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), Zone E, has directed students across the North-East to participate in a three-day peaceful demonstration over the abduction of 42 students from Government Day Secondary School, Mussa, in Askira/Uba Local Government Area of Borno State.
According to the association, the solidarity protest will be held simultaneously in Borno, Bauchi, Gombe, Adamawa and Taraba states from June 5 to June 7, 2026.
In a notice issued on Wednesday by the Chief of Staff to the Zonal Coordinator, Lukman Yusuf, NANS said the demonstration was intended to draw public attention to the plight of the abducted students, support their families and press for stronger action to secure their release.
The students’ body urged the Federal Government and security agencies to intensify ongoing rescue efforts and ensure the safe return of the victims.
NANS also called for improved security measures in schools across the country, stressing the need to protect students and guarantee a safe learning environment.
The association directed its various structures, including Joint Campus Committee leaders, Students’ Union Government executives, delegates and other stakeholders, to mobilise members for the exercise while maintaining peace and order throughout the demonstrations.
Zonal Coordinator of NANS Zone E, Comrade Muazu Hina, said collective action was necessary to sustain public attention on the incident and reinforce calls for enhanced protection of students nationwide.
The association maintained that the planned protest was aimed at showing solidarity with the affected families and advocating stronger safeguards for educational institutions.
The abduction of the 42 students from Government Day Secondary School, Mussa, has generated concern among education stakeholders, residents and civil society organisations, reigniting debates over the safety of schools in parts of northern Nigeria.
The incident has also renewed calls for more robust security arrangements around educational facilities, as authorities continue efforts to secure the release of the students amid growing pressure for swift government intervention.
