Tunji Disu Warns Against Indiscriminate Recording of Police Operations
The Inspector General of Police, Tunji Disu, has warned against indiscriminate recording and sharing of police operational videos on social media.
He stated that such actions could compromise security operations and put the lives of officers and members of the public at risk. The IGP emphasised the need for caution when handling sensitive police matters.
According to Tunji, some individuals record police officers during operations and circulate the videos without considering the consequences. He noted that this practice can expose police strategies, endanger officers, and sometimes spread misinformation.
He urged citizens to be more responsible and avoid actions that may hinder police work.
The warning comes as concerns grow over how police activities are being portrayed online. While the IGP acknowledged the public’s right to hold security agencies accountable, he stressed that this must be done responsibly without jeopardising national security or ongoing investigations. He called for better cooperation between the police and the public.
Many Nigerians have reacted to the directive. Some support the need to protect police operations, while others worry it could limit transparency. The IGP assured that the police force remains committed to serving the public and improving its relationship with citizens.
This development highlights the balance between freedom of information and operational security.
As social media continues to shape public discourse, the police hope this warning will encourage more responsible sharing of content involving law enforcement. The IGP’s message aims to foster better understanding and collaboration between the police and the people they serve.
