Obasanjo Advocates Regular Health Checks to Fight Cancer

Former Nigerian leader Olusegun Obasanjo has advised everyone to go for regular health screenings to help fight cancer.

He noted that many people only visit a hospital when they are already very sick. Obasanjo believes this habit needs to change, especially for diseases like cancer that can be treated if found early.

The former President explained that regular check-ups help doctors find cancer before it grows or spreads. Cancers like breast, prostate, and cervical cancer can be managed well when caught early. By the time symptoms appear, treatment may already be harder and less likely to work.

The former leader also spoke about the high cost of cancer treatment. Treating late-stage cancer is very expensive and painful for families. Obasanjo argued that regular screening is cheaper and more effective in the long run. He urged governments to make screening services more available and affordable.

Obasanjo called on community leaders and families to spread the message. Many people avoid screening because they are afraid or have false beliefs about cancer. He wants these wrong ideas corrected through public awareness, and for everyone to support each other in going for tests.

His message is a clear reminder that early detection saves lives. He wants Nigerians to make screenings a normal part of their lives. By doing so, many cancer deaths can be prevented, and more people can live longer, healthier lives.
