Security Forces Launch Rescue Operation After Midnight Attack in Kwara Community

Security operatives have commenced a rescue operation following the abduction of several residents during a midnight attack on Yashikira community in Kwara State.

The attack occurred in the early hours of Monday in the northern part of the state, throwing the community into panic as armed men reportedly stormed the area with heavy gunfire.

Residents said the assault began around 12:40 a.m. and lasted for nearly two hours, forcing many people to flee into nearby bushes for safety.

According to sources in the community, the attackers targeted the palace area, setting vehicles ablaze and damaging sections of the emir’s residence, including living quarters within the palace compound.

The gunmen were also said to have attempted attacks on police facilities in the area but were reportedly repelled by security personnel.

Local sources disclosed that about 10 persons were abducted during the incident, including wives and children of the emir, alongside other residents living around the palace area.

Security agencies, including the military and police, have since mounted operations around the community in efforts to rescue the victims and restore calm.

As of the time of filing this report, authorities had yet to release official statements regarding the attack.

The incident has heightened tension within Yashikira, with residents and community leaders calling for urgent intervention from the government and security agencies to prevent further attacks.

Some residents appealed to the military, police and other security operatives to strengthen security presence in the area and ensure the safe return of those abducted.
