Leicester City Confirm Joe Aribo’s Departure After Loan Spell

Leicester City have confirmed that Nigerian midfielder Joe Aribo will leave the club following the end of his loan spell as the club begins a major squad restructuring after relegation to League One.

The former Premier League champions announced the development in their retained and released list published on Sunday, which also confirmed the exits of several senior players and the return of loaned players to their parent clubs.

Aribo, who joined Leicester on loan from Southampton FC for the season, is expected to return to St Mary’s Stadium, where he remains under contract until June 2026.

In a statement released on the club’s official website, Leicester stated that the midfielder would depart alongside other temporary players whose loan agreements have expired.

The club listed Jordan James, Aaron Ramsey, Dujuan Richards and Divine Mukasa among the players returning to their parent teams at the end of the campaign.

Aribo’s exit follows Leicester’s disappointing season, which ended with relegation to England’s third division.

The 29-year-old midfielder had joined the club with expectations of adding experience and stability to the squad during a difficult campaign.

However, reports suggest discussions over a permanent move failed to progress, with indications that the Nigerian international was unwilling to continue playing in League One.

Leicester also confirmed that 10 senior first-team players would leave the club this summer following the expiration of their contracts as part of a broader rebuilding process.

Among the notable departures is club captain Ricardo Pereira, who exits after spending eight seasons with the club and making more than 200 appearances.

Senior players Patson Daka, Jordan Ayew, Jamaal Lascelles and academy graduate Wanya Marçal are also expected to leave, while goalkeeper Asmir Begović remains in talks over a possible contract extension.

Attention has now shifted to Aribo’s future at Southampton amid uncertainty over his long-term role at the club.

Since joining Southampton from Rangers FC in 2022, Aribo has experienced an inconsistent spell in English football despite showing versatility across midfield and attacking positions.

The midfielder, who previously played for Charlton Athletic, remains a regular member of the Nigeria national football team and was part of the squad that finished third at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco.

With the summer transfer window approaching, the Nigerian international is expected to attract interest from clubs in England and across Europe.
