Army Kills Two Suspected Bandits, Recover AK-47 in Taraba Forest Raid
Troops of the 6 Brigade of the Nigerian Army, operating under Sector 3 of Operation Whirl Stroke, have neutralized two suspected armed bandits during a tactical operation in Akate District, Donga Local Government Area of Taraba State.
The successful operation, which took place on May 24, 2026, was launched following credible intelligence reports regarding gunshots heard in a forest near the “Welcome to Donga” signpost. Acting swiftly on the information, forward-deployed troops mobilized to the area and conducted a tactical raid on the identified criminal hideout.
Upon arrival at the scene, the soldiers made contact with the armed suspects and engaged them in a fierce gun duel. The superior firepower of the troops resulted in the neutralization of two suspects on the spot, while other members of the gang fled deeper into the surrounding forest corridors with severe gunshot injuries.
Following the confrontation, a detailed search and exploitation of the scene led to the recovery of critical operational materials left behind by the fleeing criminals, including:
* One AK-47 rifle
* Two AK-47 magazines
* Five rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition
* Two mobile phones
* Assorted personal belongings linked to the syndicate
In a formal statement released on Monday by the Acting Assistant Director of Army Public Relations for the 6 Brigade, Lieutenant Umar Muhammad, the military emphasized that the raid reflects ongoing efforts to maintain relentless pressure on criminal groups in the region. Commenting on the operational success, the Commander of the 6 Brigade and Sector 3 of Operation Whirl Stroke, Brigadier General Chukwuemeka Michael Akaliro, commended the troops for their bravery, alertness, and professionalism.
He reaffirmed the military’s unwavering commitment to flushing out all criminal elements and restoring lasting peace to farming communities and transit corridors across Taraba State.
