Osun Senator Loses Ticket in APC Primary Shock
An incumbent senator representing Osun Central Senatorial District, Olubiyi Fadeyi, has lost his bid to secure the All Progressives Congress (APC) ticket ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Fadeyi, also known as Ajagunla, was defeated in the party’s senatorial primary by Adekunle Adegoke, a legal practitioner and prominent APC chieftain. The primary election, held across the senatorial district, witnessed a strong turnout of party delegates and was closely contested.
According to results announced by the APC primary election committee, Adegoke polled 26,655 votes to emerge winner, while the incumbent senator garnered 13,138 votes. Other aspirants recorded significantly lower figures.
The outcome marks a major political setback for Fadeyi, who was elected into the Senate in 2023 under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) before defecting to the APC in 2025.
His loss underscores the growing internal competition within the ruling party as it prepares for the 2027 elections. Party insiders described the primary as a critical test of influence among APC stakeholders in Osun State, noting that the contest reflected shifting political alliances following recent defections.
In a related development, the APC primary in Osun East Senatorial District produced a contrasting result, with incumbent senator Francis Fadahunsi securing the party’s ticket after defeating his challengers.
The Osun primaries are part of a broader trend across the country, where several sitting lawmakers have lost party nominations amid heightened intra-party rivalries and strategic realignments ahead of the next general elections.
