Nasarawa Speaker Loses APC Reps Ticket as Ogazi Emerges Winner
The Speaker of the Nasarawa State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Danladi Jatau, has failed in his bid to secure the All Progressives Congress ticket for the Keffi/Karu/Kokona Federal Constituency ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Jatau was defeated in the party’s House of Representatives primary by Daniel Ogazi, who polled 13,083 votes to emerge winner.
The Speaker secured 5,873 votes, while another aspirant, Abdulaziz Danladi, scored 1,067 votes.
The APC primaries in Nasarawa State also produced setbacks for two serving members of the House of Representatives, Mohammed Abdulmumini Ari of Nasarawa/Toto Federal Constituency and Jeremiah Umaru of Akwanga/Nasarawa Eggon/Wamba Federal Constituency, both of whom lost their re-election bids.
Announcing the results in Lafia on Sunday, Musa Shuaibu Guri, chairman of the APC National Assembly Primary Elections Committee, said the exercise was conducted peacefully across the state’s 13 local government areas.
Guri stated that the primaries complied with the provisions of the Nigerian Constitution, the Electoral Act, and the APC’s internal guidelines.
According to the results released by the committee, Mohammed Al-Bashir clinched the APC ticket for Nasarawa/Toto Federal Constituency with 31,796 votes, defeating Ari Abdulmumini Mohammed, who polled 9,039 votes, alongside other contenders.
In the Akwanga/Nasarawa Eggon/Wamba contest, Tony Bala Shammah secured victory with 38,333 votes, while incumbent lawmaker Jeremiah Umaru received 4,061 votes.
The committee also confirmed that Mohammed Al-Makura emerged as the APC candidate for Lafia/Obi Federal Constituency after his rival, Isaac Kigbu, stepped down from the race.
Al-Makura reportedly received 45,000 affirmation votes through a consensus arrangement.
Guri added that results for the Awe/Doma/Keana Federal Constituency were still being compiled and would be announced later.
He urged all aspirants to remain united and work for the success of the party ahead of the 2027 general elections.
