Enugu Police Arrest Two Suspected Kidnappers, Recover Firearm, Motorcycles
The Enugu State Police Command have arrested two men suspected to be members of an interstate kidnapping and armed robbery gang operating around border communities linking Enugu and Benue states.
The suspects, Mohammed Hassan, 28, and Aminu Usman, 26, both from Otukpa in Ogbadibo Local Government Area of Benue State, were apprehended by officers attached to the Udenu Police Division working alongside members of the Neighbourhood Watch Group.
The command’s spokesperson, SP Daniel Ndukwe, disclosed the development in a statement released on Monday.
According to him, the suspects were arrested on May 14, 2026, at about 1:20 p.m. in the Amutenyi area of Obollo-Afor, Udenu Local Government Area of Enugu State.
Items recovered during the operation included a Beretta pistol loaded with two rounds of 9mm ammunition, three motorcycles suspected to have been stolen, a mobile phone, charms, an ATM card, several keys, and N4,700 in cash.
Police said preliminary investigations suggest the suspects are linked to a criminal network allegedly involved in kidnapping activities and motorcycle theft across communities located along the Enugu-Benue boundary.
Ndukwe added that security operatives were still tracking other members of the group who reportedly escaped arrest, noting that the suspects would face prosecution after investigations are concluded.
Reacting to the development, the Commissioner of Police in Enugu State, Mamman Giwa, reiterated the command’s commitment to tackling criminal activities in the state.
He also praised the police operatives and local vigilante members involved in the operation while urging residents to continue sharing useful information with security agencies.
