Court Grants El-Rufai ₦100m Bail, Orders Monthly DSS Reporting
A Federal High Court in Abuja has granted bail to former Kaduna State governor, Nasir El-Rufai in the sum of ₦100 million following his arraignment on amended charges.
Delivering the ruling, Justice Joyce Abdulmalik ordered that he provide one surety in like sum and meet several conditions before the bail can be perfected.
The court ruled that the surety must reside in either Maitama or Asokoro districts of Abuja and submit the original Certificate of Occupancy of a landed property to the court registry.
Justice Abdulmalik further directed that the surety must be a federal civil servant not below Grade Level 17 and provide proof of salary payments for at least three months, backed by a letter from a bank manager within the court’s jurisdiction.
The judge also ordered the surety to submit an affidavit of means, execute a bail bond and provide a recent passport photograph.
As part of the bail terms, El-Rufai was directed to deposit all valid international passports with the court registry.
The court additionally ordered the defendant to report to the headquarters of the Department of State Services every last Friday of the month by 10 a.m. to sign an attendance register pending the conclusion of the trial.
Justice Abdulmalik warned that failure to comply with any of the conditions would result in an automatic revocation of the bail.
The court also directed El-Rufai to submit a letter of attestation from the Chairman of the Kaduna Traditional Council.
