Bamidele Emerges APC Candidate for Ekiti Central Unopposed

Leader of the Senate, Senator Opeyemi Bamidele, has emerged as the All Progressives Congress (APC) senatorial candidate for Ekiti Central ahead of the 2027 general election.

Bamidele emerged unopposed, according to a list of duly screened senatorial aspirants in Ekiti State released by the APC National Organising Secretary, Alhaji Sulaiman Arugungu, on Monday night.

The development means Bamidele will fly the party’s flag for Ekiti Central for the third consecutive time.

Other aspirants cleared by the party include Chairman of the Senate Committee on Media and Public Affairs, Senator Adeyemi Adaramodu, former Senate Minority Leader, Senator Biodun Olujimi, and Hon. Bamidele Faparusi for Ekiti South Senatorial District.

For Ekiti North Senatorial District, the APC also cleared Chairman of the Senate Committee on Establishment and Public Service, Senator Cyril Fasuyi, Senator Ayo Arise, Mr. Oladipupo Bamisaye and Chief Oluwadare Owolabi.

The APC stated that Bamidele’s emergence followed what it described as his strong performance in the three core responsibilities of the parliament — legislation, representation, and oversight.

Bamidele first secured the APC senatorial ticket for Ekiti Central in 2019 after defeating the then incumbent senator, Mrs. Fatimat Raji-Rasaki, in a keenly contested primary election. He also clinched the party’s nomination unopposed in 2023.

The statement was issued by the Directorate of Media and Public Affairs, Office of the Leader of the Senate, Federal Republic of Nigeria, and dated May 18, 2026.
