Baba Ijesha Reveals Clerics Warned Him of Impending Legal Trouble
Convicted Nollywood actor, Olanrewaju Omiyinka, popularly known as Baba Ijesha, has said two clerics warned him about possible trouble involving women and legal problems before the incident that eventually led to his imprisonment.
The actor identified the clerics as Prophetess Abimbola Ajayi, founder of Love of Christ Generation Church, and Pastor Israel Ogundipe, founder and spiritual leader of Genesis Global Ministry, popularly known as Genesis.
Baba Ijesha made the disclosure during an interview with Dele Adeyanju on Agabletu TV, published on the television station’s YouTube channel on Sunday.
He said his encounter with Ajayi occurred during a visit to her church in the United Kingdom, where he had travelled for shows.
According to him, he was preparing to catch a train when his promoter persuaded him to attend a church programme. He said Ajayi later asked to speak with him and warned him to be cautious about women.
Baba Ijesha recalled that the cleric specifically mentioned a short, dark-complexioned person and warned that an encounter involving such a person could result in serious problems.
He said Ajayi also told him that he could face legal trouble and urged him to pray against a situation in which an allegation that was untrue could appear credible.
The actor said the warning surprised him, prompting him to ask Ajayi what he could do to avoid the predicted situation.
He said the cleric advised him to rely on prayers and return to her church after coming back to Nigeria so that elders could pray for him.
Baba Ijesha, however, admitted that he did not act on the advice after returning to Nigeria, although he later tried to get in touch with Ajayi.
He also recalled an encounter with Ogundipe, whom he described as a cleric who had shown him affection.
According to the actor, Ogundipe called him by name after seeing him and subsequently asked about a particular person among his girlfriends.
Baba Ijesha said he could not identify the person being referred to at the time, but claimed the cleric’s words became clearer to him after the controversy that eventually led to his arrest.
He said the description given by Ogundipe appeared to correspond with someone connected to the case and described the cleric as a genuine prophet.
The actor’s disclosure comes years after his conviction over the sexual assault and indecent treatment of a child.
A Lagos State High Court sitting in Ikeja convicted him in July 2022 and imposed five-year and three-year prison terms for separate offences linked to the 2021 incident. The sentences were ordered to run concurrently.
Following his release, the Lagos State Government clarified that the actor had not been acquitted but had completed his prison sentence.
The state Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Lawal Pedro, said the Court of Appeal overturned some of the earlier convictions but upheld the conviction relating to the 2021 sexual assault.
Baba Ijesha was subsequently placed on Lagos State’s sex offenders’ register.
In a separate interview with veteran broadcaster Yinka Ayefele on Fresh FM, reported by PUNCH Online on March 23, 2026, the actor denied allegations that he was a paedophile or rapist.
He also claimed that he had been lured with food and money on the pretext of offering him a movie role before the incident that resulted in his arrest.
