Police Track Kidnappers as they Demand N20 Million for NYSC Member, Lawyer
The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has officially launched an investigation into the alarming disappearance of a National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) member and a legal practitioner in Abuja.
The missing persons, identified as Christiana and a lawyer named Sanni, were reportedly abducted in separate incidents within the capital city.
The kidnappers have reportedly established contact with the victims’ families, demanding a combined ransom of N20 million for their safe return. These developments have heightened fears among residents and professional bodies regarding the safety of young professionals and corps members serving in the FCT.
Family members have expressed deep distress over the situation, noting that the abductors have been inconsistent in their communication. The disappearance of Christiana has specifically triggered a wave of concern within the NYSC community, leading to renewed calls for the government to provide better security corridors for those on national service.
The FCT Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, confirmed that the command is deploying intelligence assets to track the suspects. She urged the affected families to avoid paying ransoms privately, as it often encourages further criminal activity and can complicate the ongoing tactical investigation.
This incident follows a series of security challenges in Abuja, including “one-chance” robberies and targeted kidnappings. Legal practitioners and civil society groups have called on the Commissioner of Police and the FCT Minister to intensify patrols and improve surveillance technology across the city’s outskirts to prevent such reoccurrences.
