The Kwara State Government has begun the distribution of about 2,000 digital devices to 70 public senior secondary schools across the state’s 16 local government areas.

The exercise is being carried out under the State Adolescent Girls Initiative for Learning and Employment project of the Ministry of Education and Human Capital Development.

Each of the beneficiary schools will receive 25 devices in the first phase of the programme. The intervention aims to improve digital literacy among teachers and students and integrate technology into teaching and learning.

Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, represented by his deputy, Kayode Alabi, flagged off the distribution in Ilorin on Friday. He said digital literacy had become essential for education and participation in the global economy, adding that the devices would equip young people to compete in a knowledge-driven world.

Commissioner for Education and Human Capital Development, Lawal Olohungbebe, said the items being distributed include 1,755 all-in-one desktop computers, 70 printers, 70 projectors and 70 motorised projector screens. Each school has also been provided with a 10kVA solar power system, internet connectivity and CCTV cameras.

Three teachers from each school have been trained to use and support the technology. The commissioner urged beneficiary schools and host communities to safeguard the equipment and ensure it is used strictly for educational purposes, noting that the distribution would continue beyond the first phase.
