Six-Year-Old Nigerian Girl Dies After Plunging from 28th-Floor Window in Toronto
A six-year-old Nigerian girl has died after falling from a bedroom window on the 28th floor of a high-rise apartment building in Toronto, Canada, sending shockwaves through her family and the wider community.
The child, identified as Amna Ayomide Bennett, plunged to her death on the evening of Sunday, April 26, 2026, at a building located at 200 Chalkfarm Drive, near Jane Street, in the North York area of Toronto.
Toronto Police Service officers were called to the scene at around 8:15 p.m., responding to a report of unknown trouble. They found the girl’s body on the grass on the south side of the building.
The building where the tragedy occurred is managed by Greenwin property management and dates back to the early 1970s. Residents of the complex were visibly shaken in the hours and days following the incident. Neighbours described Amna as a lively and well-known child in the building. “It’s very sad. I knew the little girl personally. She used to come here all the time and play with my ring camera,” one resident said. Another added: “She was a jumpy kid, a pretty lively kid. I feel bad for her family.”
The tragedy has drawn particular grief from Nigeria’s diaspora community in Canada, with many expressing sorrow over the loss. The incident also echoes a similar case from the previous year, in which a six-year-old boy died after falling from the 10th floor of an apartment building on Jane Street and Grandravine Drive, also in Toronto — raising fresh questions about child safety in the city’s older high-rise stock.
Authorities have not released further information on the family or the circumstances leading up to the fall as the investigation continues.
