Customs Officers’ Wives Launch Tree-Planting Drive in Kebbi
The Customs Officers’ Wives Association in Kebbi State has carried out a tree-planting exercise and donated waste management materials as part of efforts to promote environmental sustainability and cleaner surroundings.
The initiative, held on Thursday, forms part of a nationwide campaign by the association to plant 1,000 trees across Nigeria, with the Kebbi chapter contributing 100 trees.
Speaking at the event, the chairperson of the association in the state said the exercise was aimed at fostering a healthier environment and ensuring long-term ecological benefits. She noted that beyond planting trees, sustained care and protection are necessary to achieve lasting impact.
The programme is anchored under COWA’s Green Initiative, which focuses on environmental protection and sustainable practices. The chairperson also acknowledged the leadership of the association’s national president, Kikelomo Adeiniyi, for driving the campaign nationwide.
In addition to planting trees, the group donated 12 large waste bins to the Kebbi Area Command of the Nigeria Customs Service to support proper waste disposal, particularly plastic management. Watering containers were also provided to aid the maintenance of the planted trees.
The Customs Area Controller, Mahmoud Matawalle Ibrahim, commended the initiative and pledged continued support for the association’s activities in the state.
Participants at the event, including customs officers and stakeholders, emphasised the importance of collective responsibility in protecting the environment and sustaining development efforts.
