MMA2 Raises Parking Fees to Reduce Congestion, Stop Facility Abuse
The management of Murtala Muhammed Airport Terminal 2 (MMA2) in Lagos has increased parking charges at its multi-storey car park. Many travellers have complained about the new rates, which are much higher than before.
Some people now pay significantly more even for short stays or overnight parking. The hike has caused frustration among passengers who feel the extra cost adds to the burden of air travel.
However, the airport operators, Bi-Courtney Aviation Services Limited, insist the fee increase is not mainly about making more money. They say the change is an important step to solve serious problems at the parking area. According to them, the facility has been facing heavy congestion because some vehicles are left for several days or even weeks. This practice turns the car park into a storage space instead of a quick-use area for genuine passengers.
The management explained that the higher fees aim to discourage long-term parking and vehicle abandonment. By making extended stays more expensive, they hope to free up spaces so that people dropping off or picking up passengers can easily find a spot. They believe this will improve the flow of traffic, reduce overcrowding, and create a safer and more efficient environment for everyone using the terminal.
Airport officials added that the abuse of the parking facility has affected its overall operations. When spaces are occupied for too long, legitimate users struggle to park, leading to delays and unnecessary stress.
The new charges are meant to encourage quicker turnover and ensure the car park serves its main purpose of supporting smooth airport activities.
While some passengers continue to express dissatisfaction, the MMA2 management maintains that the review is necessary for the long-term benefit of travellers. They urge users to plan their parking needs carefully and hope the measures will eventually lead to better service at one of Nigeria’s busiest airport terminals.
