Borno Deputy Speaker Withdraws from Senatorial Race for Ali Ndume

Abdullahi Askira, the Deputy Speaker of the Borno State House of Assembly, has officially withdrawn from the Borno South senatorial race.

This decision clears the way for Ali Ndume, the incumbent senator representing the district, to seek re-election ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The move followed a unanimous endorsement of Senator Ndume by stakeholders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) across the nine local government areas of Borno South.

These stakeholders also collectively raised over N40 million to purchase the senatorial nomination form for the incumbent lawmaker.

In a statement released by his media aide, Bilyaminu Ngulde, Askira explained that his withdrawal came after extensive consultations within the party. He noted that the APC leadership had resolved to adopt Ndume as the consensus candidate to ensure party unity and progress.

The Deputy Speaker emphasized his loyalty to the party, stating that he was requested to step down in favor of Ndume and chose to comply graciously. He urged his supporters across the senatorial district to rally behind the senator and cooperate for the development of the region.

Reflecting on the nature of leadership and divine will, Askira stated, “The seat of power comes from God alone. If Allah has decreed it for you, no one can change it; and if Allah has not decreed it for you, no one can give it.”

By adopting this consensus arrangement, the APC in Borno South aims to avoid a direct primary election. Askira concluded by encouraging party members to support the chosen candidates for the overall growth of the party and the people of Borno State.
