ADC Lawyers Urge CJN to Fast-Track Judgment in Party Leadership Dispute
Lawyers representing the African Democratic Congress (ADC) have written to the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun, calling for the timely delivery of judgment in the ongoing legal battle over the party’s leadership between David Mark and Nafiu Bala Gombe.
The legal team is urging the Supreme Court to expedite its ruling in the high-profile case, which has continued to generate tension within the opposition party and raise concerns about its internal stability.
The matter centres on a leadership dispute between two factions laying claim to the control of the ADC, with former Senate President David Mark on one side and Nafiu Bala Gombe on the other.
Both camps have consistently insisted on their legitimacy, leading to prolonged legal and political uncertainty within the party structure. The case is currently before the Supreme Court after earlier decisions from lower courts failed to conclusively settle the dispute. The apex court had already heard arguments from both sides and reserved judgment after proceedings, leaving the matter unresolved.
In the letter addressed to the Chief Justice, the ADC legal team stressed the importance of a timely resolution, warning that continued delay in judgment could further deepen internal divisions and affect the party’s ability to function effectively as a unified political platform.
They also argued that clarity from the Supreme Court is essential to restore order within the party’s leadership structure and prevent further confusion among members and stakeholders.
The leadership crisis has remained one of the most contentious internal disputes within the ADC in recent times, with both factions continuing to operate parallel structures while awaiting the final verdict of the apex court.
