Chelsea Can Still Save Season Despite Slump, Says Interim Boss McFarlane
Chelsea’s interim head coach, Calum McFarlane, has insisted that the club’s season is far from over, despite a historic slump that recently led to the dismissal of Liam Rosenior.
Speaking ahead of a pivotal weekend for the Blues, McFarlane expressed unwavering belief that his squad possesses the character required to turn their fortunes around and finish the campaign on a high note.
The West London club has endured one of its most difficult spells in modern history, suffering a five-game losing streak in the Premier League—their worst run of form since 1912.
This dismal sequence, which saw the team fail to find the back of the net in several consecutive matches, ultimately cost Rosenior his job just four months into a six-year contract.
Currently sitting in 8th place, Chelsea’s hopes for a top-four finish have all but evaporated, leaving fans searching for a silver lining in an otherwise turbulent year.
However, McFarlane, who was stepped up from his role as assistant to lead the first team until the end of the season, believes the upcoming FA Cup semi-final against Leeds United at Wembley represents the perfect opportunity for redemption. “We can’t be thinking about anything else but Sunday,” McFarlane told reporters at Cobham.
He emphasized that a successful cup run could redefine the narrative of their season, shifting the focus from league disappointment to potential silverware.
As the Blues prepare for the final stretch of the 2025/26 campaign, the pressure remains high. With rivals like Brighton and Bournemouth currently sitting above them in the table, every remaining fixture is a battle for pride and continental qualification.
For McFarlane, the goal is clear: stabilize the ship, win at Wembley, and prove that this Chelsea squad is still capable of competing at the highest level despite the recent “gloom” surrounding Stamford Bridge.
