Troops Neutralize 24 Insurgents in Yobe Counter-Offensive

In a significant victory for regional security, the Nigerian Army has successfully repelled a coordinated attack by insurgents in Yobe State, resulting in the elimination of 24 terrorists.

The encounter, which occurred in the early hours of Thursday, underscores the military’s heightened readiness under Operation Hadin Kai.

The insurgents, suspected to be members of a local extremist faction, launched a multi-pronged assault on a military outpost near the border communities. However, they were met with overwhelming fire from troops who had been on high alert following intelligence reports of suspicious movements in the area.

According to military sources, the gun battle lasted for over three hours as the troops engaged the attackers in a fierce exchange. The soldiers utilized a combination of ground maneuvers and tactical support to pin down the insurgents.

Despite the surprise nature of the initial push, the troops maintained their formation, preventing the attackers from infiltrating nearby civilian settlements. Witnesses in the area reported hearing the hum of low-flying aircraft, suggesting that air assets may have provided surveillance or close-air support during the final stages of the repel.

Following the clearing operations at sunrise, the bodies of 24 insurgents were recovered from the scene. Several other terrorists are believed to have escaped into the surrounding forest with gunshot wounds. In addition to the neutralizations, the military successfully seized a substantial cache of weaponry, including twelve AK-47 rifles, several rounds of ammunition, three Rocket Propelled Grenade (RPG) launchers, and two operational vehicles fitted with anti-aircraft guns. A collection of communication devices and improvised explosive device (IED) components were also recovered.

A spokesperson for the military command praised the gallantry of the troops, noting that no casualties were recorded on the side of the Army, though two soldiers sustained minor injuries and are currently receiving medical attention.

The command reaffirmed its commitment to flushing out the remaining remnants of extremist groups in the Northeast. Residents of Yobe State have been urged to remain calm and continue providing timely information to security agencies to help sustain the current momentum in the fight against insurgency.

This recent success is expected to further stabilize the region as the military continues its mission to secure trade routes and protect rural farming communities. The operation serves as a stark reminder of the ongoing challenges in the region, but also highlights the increasing effectiveness of the Nigerian military’s counter-insurgency strategies.
