Police Launch Manhunt for Vigilante Member Over Alleged Killing in Abia
The Abia State Police Command has launched a manhunt for a vigilante member accused of killing his girlfriend and injuring two others in Amakama, Ubakala, in Umuahia South Local Government Area.
Police spokesperson, Maureen Chinaka, disclosed this in a statement on Thursday, identifying the suspect as Chinedu Anamelechi.
According to her, the incident occurred in Umuanga Amakama Community, where the suspect allegedly shot dead his girlfriend, Ezinne Ariwodo, stabbed her sister, and also shot another male victim.
Chinaka said police operatives responded promptly to a distress report and found the victim’s body at the scene with gunshot wounds.
She added that the injured persons were rescued and taken to hospital, where they are currently receiving treatment.
The police spokesperson confirmed that medical personnel pronounced the deceased dead, while the body has been deposited in a morgue for autopsy.
She noted that items recovered from the scene have been taken for further examination as part of ongoing investigations.
Chinaka said calm has been restored in the community and appealed to residents to remain law-abiding and avoid taking matters into their own hands.
She added that efforts are underway to apprehend the suspect.
