By 𝔸bdulrazak Tomiwa

An unidentified man was successfully rescued on Wednesday after jumping into the Lagos Lagoon from a bridge in an apparent suicide attempt.

The incident occurred after the man reportedly drove his car to the bridge, parked the vehicle, and leaped into the water.

Local fishermen, who were within the vicinity at the time of the plunge, reacted swiftly to the emergency. Their immediate intervention proved life-saving as they were able to pull the man out of the water before he could drown.

A video documenting the rescue operation surfaced on social media, shared by Isaac Fayose on Instagram. The footage captured the tense moments as the man was brought back to safety, highlighting the bravery of the local rescuers.

Fayose, in his social media post, expressed deep concern over the incident and the rising cases of depression. He urged Nigerians to be more attentive to the mental well-being of their family members and friends during these challenging times.

As of the time of the report, the specific reasons behind the man’s decision to take his own life remain unknown. No official suicide note or explanation was immediately recovered from the scene or his parked vehicle.

The Lagos State Police Command had not issued a formal statement or confirmed the man’s identity at the time of filing the report. The survivor was expected to be handed over to relevant authorities for medical care and professional counseling.
