Dembele Double Silences Anfield as PSG Cruise into Semi-Finals

Ousmane Dembele once again haunted Liverpool on the European stage, scoring twice in the second half to lead Paris Saint-Germain to a clinical 2-0 victory at Anfield.

The result on Tuesday night completed a dominant 4-0 aggregate win for the defending champions, ending Arne Slot’s Champions League campaign with the Reds in disappointment.

Despite the final scoreline, Liverpool started with the intensity required for a famous European comeback. With Mohamed Salah surprisingly beginning on the bench, the hosts pinned PSG back for much of the first hour.

However, the French giants remained disciplined, led by a colossal performance from Marquinhos, who produced a miraculous goal-saving block to deny Alexander Isak early on.

Liverpool’s frustrations grew as they finished the match with 21 shots but failed to beat Matvey Safonov in the PSG goal.

The deadlock was finally broken in the 72nd minute against the run of play. As Liverpool poured men forward, PSG launched a trademark counter-attack. Khvicha Kvaratskhelia found Ousmane Dembele on the edge of the area; the Frenchman cut inside and unleashed a low, curling effort into the bottom corner.

The goal effectively sucked the life out of the Anfield crowd, leaving the hosts needing four goals in less than 20 minutes.

Dembele added the final flourish in stoppage time. In the 91st minute, substitute Bradley Barcola surged down the wing and squared the ball across the face of the goal, allowing Dembele to tap home his second of the night. The brace takes the 28-year-old’s tally to 12 goals in the calendar year of 2026, further cementing his status as one of the world’s most clinical finishers.

Luis Enrique’s side now moves into the semi-finals, where they will face the winner of the heavyweight clash between Real Madrid and Bayern Munich. For Liverpool, attention shifts back to a domestic campaign where Arne Slot faces increasing pressure to ensure the club qualify for the Champions League.
