Aiyedatiwa Vows Decisive Action as Insecurity Grips Ondo Communities
Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa has declared “war on gunmen” following a series of brutal attacks in the Akure North Local Government Area that left several residents dead, including a mother and her daughter.
Speaking during a high-stakes condolence visit to the palace of the Olumafon of Imafon on Tuesday, April 14, the Governor vowed that his administration would “flush out” criminal elements and restore the state’s reputation as a safe haven.
The governor’s visit comes in the wake of public outrage and protests by residents of Imafon, Igushin, and Ilado communities. Over the weekend, hundreds of protesters blocked major junctions in Akure to demand better protection after a female poultry farmer and her young daughter were murdered by suspected kidnappers who scaled a farm fence to carry out the attack.
Describing the killings as “deeply disturbing” and “unacceptable,” Aiyedatiwa assured the bereaved families that the perpetrators would be tracked down and brought to justice.
To bolster security in the affected forest enclaves, Governor Aiyedatiwa announced the immediate establishment of new Amotekun Corps security posts within the troubled communities. He disclosed that the state is intensifying its collaboration with the military, police, and local vigilante groups to enhance surveillance and reduce response times.
The Governor also noted that his administration’s “anti-kidnapping drive” has already led to the arrest of over 100 suspects who have been charged to court in recent weeks.
Aiyedatiwa issued a stern warning against those who might be aiding criminals from within. He appealed to traditional rulers, hunters, and youth leaders to cooperate with security agencies by providing vital information. “We will not allow innocent lives to be wasted under any guise,” the Governor stated, emphasizing that the state government is committed to reclaiming every inch of forest currently occupied by bandits and kidnappers.
