Edo Residents Apprehend Notorious Kidnap Kingpin

By 𝔸bdulrazak Tomiwa

Residents of Imoga community in Edo State have captured Ismaila Ibrahim, a notorious kidnap kingpin who operated from local forests.

He was apprehended through a joint effort by local youths and vigilantes.

The capture followed the escape of Mallam Jamilu, a cow dealer who identified Ibrahim as his captor. Jamilu had been lured to a camp and abducted for a ₦10 million ransom.

Jamilu’s family paid ₦6 million toward his release. Fearing for his life after the kidnappers realized he recognized them, Jamilu fled into the bush and alerted the community.

Brave residents tracked Ibrahim down, leading to a confession. However, he initially refused to reveal his accomplices, claiming he would protect gang members still hiding in the forest.

The suspect was transferred to state police headquarters for interrogation. Community leaders have vowed to monitor the case closely to ensure the criminal faces the full weight of the law.

Police spokesperson Eno Ikoedem confirmed Ibrahim is in custody and providing useful information. Authorities have launched a manhunt to locate the remaining syndicate members still at large.

Relieved residents are now awaiting the suspect’s formal arraignment. They hope this arrest will finally curb the persistent wave of kidnappings terrorizing the Akoko Edo region.
