Ese Brume Joins Star-Studded Lineup for Nairobi 2026 Kip Keino Classic
Nigeria’s long jump sensation and Olympic medalist, Ese Brume is officially set to headline the field events at the seventh edition of the Absa Kip Keino Classic.
The World Athletics Continental Tour Gold meet is scheduled for April 24, 2026, at the Nyayo National Stadium.
In a significant departure from tradition, this year’s event will be held under floodlights, running from 4:00 PM to 9:00 PM. Organizers have also confirmed the debut of WaveLight technology—an LED pacing system—to help athletes chase record-breaking times in the high-altitude conditions of Nairobi.
Brume, a consistent force on the global stage, comes into the 2026 season looking to build on her decorated career. Holding the African record of 7.17m, her participation adds immense “star power” to the long jump pits, where she has historically performed well during African tour stops.
Brume joins a formidable roster of global stars confirmed for the Nairobi showpiece, including Africa’s fastest man Ferdinand Omanyala, who leads the charge in the sprints. The field events will see Olympic and World hammer throw champion Ethan Katzberg in action, while middle-distance sensation Emmanuel Wanyonyi is expected to test his speed in the 1,500m. Adding to the international pedigree is former 400m hurdles world record holder Dalilah Muhammad, rounding out one of the most competitive lineups in the event’s history.
Meet Director, Barnaba Korir emphasized that Brume’s inclusion is a testament to the event’s growing prestige. “We are bringing together the world’s elite,” Korir stated during the event launch. “With the evening atmosphere and the new technology, we expect a landmark edition that favors both the athletes and the fans.”
For Brume, the Kip Keino Classic serves as a vital launching pad for her 2026 international campaign. As one of Nigeria’s most reliable podium finishers, her presence in Nairobi is expected to draw significant attention from fans across the continent.
