Armed Robbers Attack Publisher, Injure Journalist in Night Raid

Suspected armed robbers have attacked the residence of Mustapha Saddiq, publisher of Katsina Post, in Batagarawa Local Government Area of Katsina State, injuring him during a late night invasion.

The incident reportedly occurred around 2 a.m. on Saturday when three masked men scaled the fence of the compound and forced their way into the residence by breaking a padlock, according to accounts from co-publisher Sadiq Bindawa.

During the attack, the assailants allegedly engaged Saddiq in a physical struggle and inflicted injuries on him with a sharp object suspected to be a knife, dagger or machete. He was later taken to a government hospital in Katsina State, where he is currently receiving treatment.

Although no gunshots were fired, the victim’s wife reportedly sighted one of the attackers carrying a firearm during the invasion. The attackers subsequently fled the scene after stealing Saddiq’s mobile phone and his vehicle.

The stolen vehicle was later recovered abandoned in Abukur community in Rimi Local Government Area of Katsina State. Local authorities confirmed that the chairman of Rimi Local Government informed the family about the recovery of the vehicle.

The co publisher said the matter has been reported to security authorities and confirmed that the family is already in contact with the police over the incident.

The Nigeria Police Force through the Batagarawa Police Division has commenced investigation into the attack, although efforts to obtain official comments from the Katsina State Police Command spokesperson were unsuccessful at the time of filing this report.

No other members of the household were injured in the incident, but the attack has raised renewed concerns over insecurity and the safety of journalists in parts of northern Nigeria.
