Hajj 2027: NAHCON, NSCDC Strengthen Security Partnership For Safer Pilgrimage

The National Hajj Commission of Nigeria, NAHCON, and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, have deepened their security pact to ensure the safety and smooth conduct of Nigerian pilgrims for the 2027 Hajj operations.

The renewed partnership was reinforced when the Commandant-General of the NSCDC, Dr. Ahmed Abubakar Audi, paid a courtesy visit to the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of NAHCON, Ambassador Ismail Abba Yusuf, at the Hajj House in Abuja.

According to a statement issued on Wednesday by NAHCON’s Head of Information and Publications Division, Mallam Shafii Mohammed, the meeting focused on strengthening existing collaboration between the two organisations, particularly in the areas of security, crowd movement management, safety of pilgrims and effective coordination among relevant agencies during Hajj operations.

Dr. Audi commended the NAHCON leadership for the ongoing reforms being implemented to reposition the Nigerian Hajj industry, assuring the Commission of the Corps’ continued support and cooperation.

In his response, Ambassador Yusuf thanked the NSCDC boss for the visit and reaffirmed NAHCON’s commitment to sustaining and strengthening the partnership for the benefit of Nigerian pilgrims.

He noted that closer collaboration with security agencies remains critical to ensuring the success, safety and smooth conduct of future Hajj operations, especially at departure centres where proactive monitoring is needed to weed out undesirable persons and prevent drug-related and human trafficking activities.

The partnership comes as preparations for the 2027 Hajj intensify. Nigeria has been allocated 50,000 slots for 2027, with 35,000 reserved for state pilgrims and 15,000 for licensed private tour operators under Saudi Arabia’s new business-to-business framework.

NAHCON is also working to adapt to sweeping reforms introduced by Saudi Arabia under Vision 2030, which is moving Hajj administration to a more commercialised and digitised system.
