CVR: INEC Cautions against Multiple Registration in Ekit

The Independent National Electoral Commission has cautioned the people of Ekiti State against engaging in multiple registrations for the permanent voter card, warning that such actions will attract legal sanctions.
The INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner in Ekiti State, Bunmi Omoseyindemi, issued this warning in Ado Ekiti while announcing the commencement of the second phase of the Continuous Voter Registration exercise.
He emphasized that anyone involved in multiple registrations or other electoral infractions would be dealt with according to the law.
The second phase of the CVR provides an opportunity for residents who missed the first phase to register or update their information.
Omoseyindemi urged stakeholders to mobilize eligible citizens, particularly those who have recently turned 18, to ensure they can participate in the upcoming governorship election scheduled for June 20, 2026.
This follows the completion of the first phase, which ran from August to December 2025, and a subsequent period for claims and objections where the public could correct registration errors.
As the state prepares for the June election, the electoral body has already released a provisional list of candidates.
According to the current timeline, political parties have until January 12 to withdraw or replace candidates, with the final list of nominated candidates set to be published on January 19.
The REC concluded by reiterating the commission’s commitment to conducting a free and fair election, calling on political parties and the general public to support efforts to build confidence in the electoral process.
