Court Sentences Two to Death for Killing Newlywed During Rubbery

By 𝔸bdulrazak Tomiwa

A Kano High Court sentenced Aliyu Hussaini and Amir Zakariyya to death for the murder of newlywed Yazid Haruna.

The duo was convicted of conspiracy, armed robbery, and culpable homicide.

The attack occurred in June 2025 at Sheka Sabuwar Abuja Quarters. Armed with knives and machetes, the men ambushed the victim in the early morning hours.

The killers stole N19,500 and two phones before fatally stabbing Haruna in the chest and head. The state’s case was supported by witnesses and medical evidence.

Despite the defendants’ denials, the prosecution successfully proved they violated the Kano State Penal Code. The defense’s plea for leniency was ultimately rejected.

Justice Amina Adamu-Aliyu condemned the “inhuman” act, noting that violent phone robberies have become a rampant menace in society.

The court imposed one-year and life terms for conspiracy and robbery, concluding with the death sentence by hanging for the murder.
