A’Ibom Gov Signs N1.584trn 2026 Budget into Law

Governor Umo Eno of Akwa Ibom State has signed the 2026 Appropriation Bill, totaling N1.584 trillion, into law.
The signing took place in Uyo after the bill passed through the State House of Assembly.
Titled “The People’s Budget of Expansion and Growth,” the financial plan is intended to stimulate the economy and enhance living standards throughout the state’s 31 local government areas.
The budget structure earmarks N354.8 billion (25%) for recurrent costs, while a substantial N1.229 trillion (75%) is dedicated to capital projects, highlighting a major push for infrastructure development.
Governor Eno explained that this budget is designed to advance the state’s “ARISE Agenda,” focusing on key areas such as food security, rural progress, tourism, and the finalization of major road and bridge projects.
At the ceremony, the Governor urged implementation committees to prioritize efficiency, specifically setting an April 1 deadline for the state’s international airport projects to become operational.
He also credited federal reforms, including the removal of fuel subsidies, for providing the additional revenue necessary to fund these large-scale capital investments.
The Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Udeme Otong, praised the governor for the budget’s focus on the citizens’ needs.
He noted that the legislature carefully reviewed the figures to ensure that critical sectors like healthcare, education, and human capital development received adequate funding.
