NCAA Invites Airlines Over Flight Disruptions, Refunds
The Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has summoned domestic airlines to a meeting following widespread complaints of flight disruptions and the failure of some operators to refund passengers after cancellations and delays.
The regulatory agency issued the invitation on Tuesday, September 9, 2025, stressing that airlines must comply with existing consumer protection regulations which mandate prompt refunds and adequate care for affected passengers.
According to the NCAA, the meeting will focus on addressing recurring operational lapses, ensuring that airlines improve communication with travelers, and reinforcing accountability in cases of delayed or cancelled flights.
Officials noted that the aviation regulator has received a surge of complaints in recent weeks, particularly during the peak travel season, with passengers left stranded or inadequately compensated.
The NCAA emphasized that protecting consumer rights remains a top priority and warned that any airline found violating regulations on refunds or service obligations risks sanctions.
The meeting with airline operators is expected to set out stricter compliance measures and timelines, with the aim of restoring passenger confidence in Nigeria’s aviation sector.
