IGP Disu Bans Police Officers from Unauthorised Content Creation, Live Streaming

The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, has banned officers and men of the Nigeria Police Force from engaging in unauthorised social media activities.

The directive specifically targets content creation and live streaming that could harm the force’s image. This decision comes amid growing concerns about officers producing videos and broadcasts while in uniform without official approval.

According to a statement by the Force Public Relations Officer, Anietie Okokon Iniedu, the IGP stressed that social media remains a vital tool for communication. However, its use by officers must strictly follow existing laws and the police social media policy. The ban is meant to protect the integrity, professionalism, and public image of the force.

The new rules prohibit officers from creating or sharing unauthorised content in uniform. They are also barred from commenting publicly on official police matters, disclosing sensitive information, or using their position for personal gain.

The IGP made it clear that these activities will no longer be tolerated under any circumstances.

To ensure compliance, the IGP has directed Commissioners of Police and other supervisory officers to enforce the directive strictly. They have been warned that they will be held accountable for any violations within their commands.

The Force Intelligence Department and the X-Squad have also been tasked with monitoring social media platforms to catch offenders.

The police leadership reaffirmed its commitment to discipline and professionalism. The ban is aimed at strengthening public trust and protecting the institution’s integrity. Officers are now expected to focus on their duties rather than seeking online fame. For the Nigeria Police Force, this marks a new chapter in responsible public communication.
