Dangote Refinery Debunks Shutdown Rumours, Affirms Steady Operations
The Dangote Petroleum Refinery has strongly denied reports suggesting a suspension of operations or a halt in truck loading activities, insisting that its production and supply lines remain fully functional.
In a statement issued on Friday night, the company’s Group Chief Branding and Communications Officer, Anthony Chiejina, described the claims as “false and misleading,” adding that such rumours could unnecessarily unsettle the market.
“The Dangote Petroleum Refinery is fully operational. There has been no shutdown, nor has there been any suspension of truck loading activities,” Mr. Chiejina stated.
The clarification comes in response to media reports alleging that the refinery had resumed petrol sales after a one-week suspension. Mr. Chiejina explained that the refinery’s recent intermittent sale of Residual Catalytic Oil (RCO) was part of standard business practice, often involving bulk transactions and tenders for large parcels of fuel oil.
According to him, the refinery consistently delivers more than 40 million litres of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) daily, in addition to steady supplies of Automotive Gas Oil (AGO), with no interruptions to the distribution chain.
He stressed that the Dangote Refinery remains committed to meeting the nation’s fuel demands, noting that production and truck loading are ongoing without disruption.
“Our operations are stable, our supply is uninterrupted, and our focus remains on delivering quality petroleum products to the Nigerian market,” he said.
The $20 billion Dangote Refinery, located in the Lekki Free Trade Zone in Lagos, commenced operations earlier this year and is regarded as Africa’s largest oil refining facility. It has been a key player in reducing Nigeria’s dependence on imported petroleum products.
