Tension Escalates Between Tinubu’s Administration, ADC

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has accused President Bola Tinubu’s administration of attempting to undermine the opposition coalition formed to challenge him in the 2027 elections. According to the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, the administration is secretly meeting with ADC leaders in the North East and North West, aiming to intimidate, coerce or co-opt them into sabotaging the coalition.

Abdullahi claims these clandestine meetings are designed to sow confusion within the party, delegitimize its leadership and disrupt its momentum as a credible opposition force.

He described this move as a coordinated assault on multiparty democracy, warning that it could lead to a one-party state.

The ADC has vowed to resist any attempts to turn Nigeria into a one-party dictatorship, emphasizing its commitment to democratic principles. Abdullahi called on President Tinubu to rein in his appointees and prove his commitment to democracy.

The party asserts that the coalition movement is an idea whose time has come, belonging to every Nigerian seeking change.

The ADC was recently adopted as the political platform for a coalition aimed at unseating President Tinubu in 2027. This development has sparked mixed reactions among Nigerians, with some supporting the move and others opposing it. The opposition coalition, which includes notable figures like Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi, seeks to present a united front against the ruling party.
