Abuja Facebook Love Turns Sour as Widow is Murdered, Buried in Soakaway
In a heart-rending testament to the perils of social media, Mrs. Janet Nnenna Ogbonaya, a 55-year-old, widow and devoted mother, fell prey to a monstrous crime after encountering a man on Facebook.
The accused, 38-year-old Johnson Emmanuel, tall and insidiously charming, ensnared the unsuspecting woman in a lethal scheme.
Their exchanges culminated in an ill-fated agreement to meet at Wumba District, Lokogoma, Abuja—Johnson’s abode.
Unbeknownst to Mrs. Ogbonaya, Johnson had devised a callous plot. After offering her yoghurt laced with drugs, he mercilessly took her life. With the complicity of his brothers, Gideon Emmanuel and Success Emmanuel, her body was interred in a soakaway pit on the premises.
In an additional act of malevolence, the trio absconded with her Toyota Highlander SUV, repainted it, and sold it.
They then contacted her family, demanding a ransom of five million naira, deceitfully claiming she had been abducted.
Attempting to obliterate their trail, Johnson sold his house in Abuja and absconded with his brothers to their hometown in Ideato, Imo State.
However, the scales of justice began to tip when Mrs. Ogbonaya’s son reported the incident to the authorities. Following meticulous investigations, the police traced the culprits to Imo State. All three were apprehended, and in a shocking disclosure, they led investigators to the soakaway where the victim’s remains were concealed—unveiling a crime that appalled the nation.
This appalling case transpired precisely one year ago, serving as a stark reminder to be vigilant and discerning about whom we engage with online.
