PDP Cannot Be Intimidated in Abia, Says Okiyi Kalu

A chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party in Abia State, John Okiyi Kalu, has declared that the party will not be intimidated as preparations intensify for the 2027 elections.

Speaking at a stakeholders’ meeting in Umuahia, Kalu urged party leaders and members to remain united and resolute, insisting that the PDP retains the structure and capacity to challenge its opponents in the state.

He called on the party’s State Working Committee to reassure members of the party’s readiness, describing recent political tensions and rhetoric from those in power as attempts to instil fear.

Kalu emphasised that the PDP remains committed to a peaceful electoral process but would resist any form of intimidation, adding that the party has a history of conducting elections in the state without violence.

He also advised the leadership to reconnect with former members who had left the party, noting that unity would be critical to its chances in the upcoming elections.

Referencing prominent figures within the party, including Okezie Ikpeazu and Nyesom Wike, Kalu said the PDP balances a commitment to peace with the resolve to defend its political space.

In his remarks, the state party chairman, Abraham Amah, commended Kalu’s visit, describing it as a morale boost for members and a sign of continued commitment from key stakeholders.

Also speaking, the state women leader, Fidelia Ukejianya, pledged that the party would act on the advice given, reaffirming support for efforts to strengthen the PDP ahead of future elections.
