APC Announces Revised Timetable for 2027 General Election Primaries

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has officially released a revised timetable and schedule of activities for its 2027 general election primaries.

The adjustment, announced on Thursday following the 186th meeting of the party’s National Working Committee (NWC) in Abuja, shifts the presidential primary election to May 23, 2026, and the governorship primaries to May 21, 2026.

According to the Deputy National Publicity Secretary, Duro Meseko, the revision aligns with the Constitution of Nigeria, the 2026 Electoral Act, and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) guidelines. The sale of nomination forms is set to commence on Saturday, April 25, 2026, and will conclude on May 2, 2026. Submission of completed forms is due by Monday, May 4, 2026.

The screening of aspirants for various positions will take place between May 6 and May 9, 2026, with the presidential screening scheduled for May 9. The results of the screening process for all offices will be published on May 11, 2026, followed by the handling of appeals by the appeal committees from May 12 to May 13, 2026.

The primary elections are now scheduled to follow this sequence:
* House of Representatives: May 15, 2026
* Senate: May 18, 2026
* State House of Assembly: May 20, 2026
* Governorship: May 21, 2026
* Presidential: May 23, 2026

The NWC also confirmed the adoption of both direct and consensus modes for the primaries, emphasizing that aspirants are free to express their preference in accordance with the Electoral Act. Meseko clarified that where consensus is not agreed upon, the process will automatically revert to direct primaries. He also reassured party members that nomination forms are available to all interested aspirants and are not reserved for any specific individual.

Additionally, the party announced the schedule for the 2026 congresses in Zamfara State, which will commence on April 28, 2026, covering ward, local government, and state executive positions. This broader adjustments ensure the party remains in compliance with INEC’s window for primaries, which closes on May 30, 2026.
