Deji Adeleke, Davido’s Dad Donates ₦500 Million to Osun State Security Trust Fund
Billionaire businessman and philanthropist, Dr. Deji Adeleke, made a major financial commitment to Osun State’s security apparatus on Thursday.
During the official launch of the Osun State Security Trust Fund in Osogbo, the father of music star Davido announced a generous donation of ₦500 million to boost the state’s safety initiatives.
The state government, led by Governor Ademola Adeleke, also signaled its strong commitment to the initiative by pledging ₦300 million as initial take-off support. Beyond the significant contributions from the Adeleke family, the event also saw various businesses and corporate stakeholders pledging their support to ensure the success of the new security framework.
During the launch, Governor Adeleke was quick to clarify the nature of the project, emphasizing that it is neither a political maneuver nor a self-serving policy. He described the Trust Fund as a necessary and vital step to secure the lives and property of the people of Osun, noting that successful Public-Private Partnership (PPP) arrangements in other states like Lagos, Kaduna, and Rivers served as a blueprint for this move.
The primary focus of the fund is to provide sustainable financial resources to upgrade modern security infrastructure across the state. Governor Adeleke disclosed that the state plans to establish a modern Situation Room equipped with real-time CCTV surveillance to monitor potential threats.
Additionally, the funds will be used to procure and maintain operational tools, including refurbished Armoured Personnel Carriers and new patrol vehicles for security agencies.
To address potential concerns regarding the management of such a large sum, the Governor offered strong assurances to the public. He promised that the fund, which is regulated by specific legislation, will be managed with strict adherence to accountability, transparency, and due process, ensuring that every naira donated is channeled directly into strengthening state security.
Secretary to the State Government, Teslim Igbalaye, provided further background on the initiative, noting that the launch followed the successful activation of an enabling law that had been on the books since 2012. This long-awaited activation marks a pivotal transition in how the state plans to tackle persistent security challenges through institutionalized support.
Femi Oyedipe, the Secretary of the Security Trust Fund, concluded the event by calling for continued collaboration. He urged stakeholders and the public to maintain their support, emphasizing that the initiative is critical for providing the necessary equipment for security operatives to perform their duties effectively and ensuring a safer environment for all residents of Osun State.
