Iyabo Obasanjo Calls for Consensus Inclusivity in Ogun APC Arrangement

Former senator and ex-governorship aspirant, Iyabo Obasanjo, has urged the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ogun State to ensure inclusiveness in its consensus arrangement for selecting the party’s governorship candidate ahead of the 2027 elections.

In a statement issued on Thursday, she said she had consistently supported consensus as a means of reducing internal party conflict and strengthening the party’s chances in future elections. She noted that she had publicly accepted the outcome of the process and congratulated the party’s consensus candidate, Solomon Adeola, after the caucus meeting held in Abeokuta on April 13, 2026.

Obasanjo explained that she also suspended her governorship campaign following the party’s decision, stressing that her loyalty to the APC remains intact.

However, she argued that the consensus process should not exclude or disregard aspirants who withdrew from the race in the interest of party unity. She said proper recognition should be given to all individuals who invested time, resources and political capital during consultations across the state.

She also raised concerns over alleged mistreatment of some of her supporters during the caucus meeting, claiming that some were denied entry and others were attacked, requiring medical attention.

According to her, while some aspirants were acknowledged during the meeting, she and another former aspirant, Tunde Lemo, were not recognised despite their statewide consultations and political engagements.

Obasanjo maintained that true party unity must go beyond consensus agreements and include recognition, fairness and respect for all stakeholders.

Despite her reservations, she reaffirmed her support for the APC, its governorship candidate, and the administration of Bola Tinubu, stating that she remains committed to the party’s success in the 2027 elections.

She concluded by urging party leaders to adopt a more inclusive approach going forward, saying collective engagement remains key to electoral victory.
