Yahoo School Recruiter Sentenced to Five Years in Prison
A man named Goodluck Ejimiyare has been sentenced to five years in prison for running a cybercrime training centre, popularly known as a “Yahoo school”.
He was convicted for recruiting young boys into internet fraud activities. The court also ordered him to pay a fine of N1 million.
Ejimiyare pleaded guilty to the charges of conspiracy to commit internet fraud. The case was handled by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in Benin. Many young people have been lured into cybercrime through such illegal training centres, and authorities are working hard to stop this trend.
The sentence is seen as a strong warning to others involved in recruiting youths for online fraud.
Cybercrime has become a major problem in Nigeria, with many young boys dropping out of school or abandoning honest work to join these illegal schemes. The judgment aims to discourage such activities and protect the future of young Nigerians.
This conviction highlights the ongoing efforts by law enforcement to fight internet fraud and its recruiters. Parents and communities are encouraged to be more vigilant and guide their children away from anything that looks like quick money schemes.
The court’s decision sends a clear message that recruiting others into crime will not be tolerated.
As cases like this continue to appear in court, many hope that stricter punishments will help reduce the number of “Yahoo schools” across the country. Goodluck Ejimiyare’s five-year jail term serves as a reminder of the consequences of leading young people into a life of crime.
