Abia Housing Gets Fresh Start as FHA Launches Tinubu Renewed Hope Estate
The Federal Housing Authority has started work on a new housing project in Abia State.
The estate, named after President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Housing Programme, marks the beginning of construction in the eastern part of the country. Officials held a groundbreaking ceremony in Umuahia North Local Government Area along the Ubani–Uzuakoli Road to launch the joint effort between the federal and state governments.
FHA Managing Director Oyetunde Ojo led the event and praised Abia for its quick support. He said the state had already set aside land and promised to help find buyers for the houses. The project follows high standards set by the FHA and aims to create a modern living space that residents will be proud of. Governor Alex Otti welcomed the move and stressed that the focus is on people’s welfare, not politics or other differences.
The housing scheme was first planned about 18 years ago but has now received new energy under the current administration. Ojo explained that President Tinubu made it clear the programme should help everyone, no matter their background. He added that choosing Abia to kick off the eastern leg was a deliberate step because of the warm welcome from the state government during earlier visits.
More than 800 out of around 900 people affected by the land have already received full payment. Governor Otti urged the remaining few to sort out any small issues so they can collect their money, which is already waiting in the bank. Community leaders at the event thanked both the president and the governor and prayed for the project to finish on time.
This new estate is expected to bring affordable homes to families in Abia and show how federal and state teams can work together for real progress. Officials believe it will improve living conditions and create a better environment for many residents. With this launch, hope is rising that more such projects will follow soon across the region.
