Peter Obi Cannot be President Now, Says Yul Edochie
Nollywood actor and public commentator, Yul Edochie, has generated fresh political reactions after declaring that former presidential candidate, Peter Obi, cannot become President of Nigeria “at this time.
Edochie made the statement in a post shared on his verified social media account, where he also suggested that any political party currently associated with Obi may experience internal instability.
He further insisted that, in his view, Obi’s path to the presidency is not feasible in the present political climate. The actor wrote that political realities and dynamics within the country make it unlikely for the Labour Party flagbearer in the 2023 general elections to achieve the presidency in the near future.
The comments quickly gained widespread attention online, triggering mixed reactions from Nigerians. While some users agreed with Edochie’s assessment as a personal opinion on political strategy, others strongly criticized him, arguing that his statement undermines opposition politics and democratic competition ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Peter Obi, a former governor of Anambra State, remains a key figure in Nigeria’s opposition politics following his strong performance in the 2023 presidential election under the Labour Party.
He continues to be mentioned in discussions around possible political realignments ahead of the next election cycle.
Yul Edochie, who has increasingly become vocal on national political issues in recent years, is also known for his public support of President Bola Tinubu’s administration, a stance that has further positioned him as a controversial voice in Nigeria’s political discourse.
As political activities gradually build toward 2027, statements from public figures like Edochie continue to fuel debate around leadership prospects, party alliances, and the evolving structure of Nigeria’s opposition landscape.
