Anambra First Lady Fetes Orphanage Children, Seeks Improved Welfare for Vulnerable
The First Lady of Anambra State, Nonye Soludo, has called for enhanced welfare and sustained support for vulnerable children, particularly those living in orphanages across the country.
Mrs. Soludo made the call during visits to selected motherless babies’ homes in the state as part of activities marking this year’s Mothering Sunday celebration.
The outreach programme was aimed at sharing love, care and encouragement with children who lack parental support.
Speaking during the visits, the First Lady emphasised the need for society to prioritise the wellbeing of disadvantaged children, noting that they deserve not only material assistance but also emotional care and a sense of belonging.
She described children as the foundation of any society, stressing that investing in their welfare is critical to building a better future.
According to her, the occasion served as a reminder that compassion and kindness should extend beyond immediate families to include the less privileged.
Mrs. Soludo further noted that interactions with the children reinforced the true essence of motherhood, which she said goes beyond biological ties to include acts of love, sacrifice and service to humanity.
She urged government institutions, private organisations and individuals to collaborate in strengthening policies and programmes that support orphanages and improve the quality of life for vulnerable children.
The First Lady also commended mothers for their enduring sacrifices in raising families and contributing to societal development, describing them as pillars of stability and moral guidance.
Her visit forms part of ongoing humanitarian efforts in Anambra State to draw attention to the needs of vulnerable groups and promote inclusive social welfare initiatives.
