Motorcyclist Killed in Crash with Truck on Sagamu–Benin Expressway

A commercial motorcyclist has lost his life following a fatal road accident involving a Howo truck along the Sagamu–Benin Expressway in Ogun State.

The incident, which occurred around the Ososa axis of the highway, involved a Bajaj motorcycle and a white-and-blue Howo truck. The Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency (TRACE) confirmed that three people were involved in the crash.

According to TRACE spokesperson, Babatunde Akinbiyi, the motorcyclist died from injuries sustained in the collision, while the two occupants of the truck escaped unhurt. Preliminary investigations revealed that the accident was caused by reckless riding.

The motorcyclist was said to have attempted a U-turn without properly checking for oncoming vehicles, leading to a head-on collision with the truck. Emergency responders, including TRACE officials and police officers, were quickly deployed to the scene.

The victim was taken to a nearby hospital, where he was later pronounced dead. His remains have been deposited at the General Hospital morgue in Ijebu Ode. Authorities also confirmed that the damaged vehicles have been moved to the Odogbolu Police Division for further investigation, while the scene has been cleared to ensure the free flow of traffic.

The Sagamu–Benin Expressway remains a major transport route known for frequent accidents, particularly involving heavy-duty vehicles. Traffic authorities have continued to urge road users to adhere strictly to safety regulations, avoid dangerous maneuvers, and exercise caution at all times to prevent further loss of lives.
